Why Meta Ads for local businesses?
Facebook and Instagram are used every day by a great many people – in your town too. With Meta Ads you can show ads within a specific radius, for example around Reutlingen, and narrow them down by age or interests. That way you reach people who do not know your offer yet but live in your catchment area.
Choosing the right campaign objective
When you create a campaign, Meta asks for the objective. Your choice determines who the ads are shown to:
- Awareness / reach: as many people as possible in the region see your brand.
- Traffic: people should visit your website.
- Leads: enquiries via a form – directly in Facebook/Instagram or on your website.
- Sales: purchases in your online shop, measured with the pixel and the Conversions API.
Audience: region, age, interests
For local businesses, location targeting is the most important lever: postcode, town or a radius around your location. Add age and – sparingly – interests. Audiences that are too narrow often make campaigns expensive; it is better to give the system some room and let the ads speak for themselves.
Retargeting is particularly effective: people who have already visited your website or interacted with your profile see a further ad.
Creatives that work in the feed
- Vertical video for Reels and Stories – the first seconds decide.
- Real people and real places instead of stock photos: your team, your workshop, your shop.
- One clear message per ad and an obvious next step (“Request an appointment”, “View now”).
- Test several variants and shift the budget to the strongest one.
Tracking and privacy
Advertising without measurement is flying blind. The Meta pixel and the Conversions API show which ads lead to enquiries or purchases. In Germany this requires visitor consent via a consent banner and a matching section in your privacy policy.
Budget and expectations
There is no fixed “minimum budget” – costs depend on region, competition, audience and objective. What matters is that the budget is large enough for the system to learn, and that you track realistic metrics: reach, click-through rate, cost per enquiry.
An example from our work shows what is possible: for one client we reach around one million people every month with Meta Ads – with an appropriate, well-targeted ad budget.
The most important metrics
| Metric | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Reach | Number of unique people who saw the ad |
| Impressions | Total number of times the ad was shown, including repeats |
| Frequency | How often one person saw the ad on average |
| CTR (click-through rate) | Share of impressions that led to a click |
| Cost per result | What an enquiry, a click or a purchase costs on average |
